Monday, October 3
Today we started our spelling, Words Their Way. Last week we did a word sort together in class so students got a feel for it.
This week, they have been divided into their groups and have been given their specific spelling words.
In class, we cut them out and students sorted them on their desk. (Students sort their words according to the kind of vowel-sound, such as long a and short a) Afterwards, students created the exact same word sort in their CAFE Daily 5 notebook.
Homework = students will be illustrating what these words look like in their CAFE Daily 5 notebook.
Students will also be defining unfamiliar words and using them (5 at a time) to create short stories.
Friday = Assessment. I will be assessing the students on their spelling words. Not ALL words will be tested. Test is typically 20 points: 1 point for each word spelled correctly; 1 point for having it placed in the correct sort.
